NICE ROMANIA!

 It was in the air: since the very moment we annouced we were going to Romania for our first meeting with the Comenius Project, the comment was that: “Romania? Oh, there is Transylvania, you are going to see Dracula's Castle!” So, when we understood that the first trip we were taking during the meeting was exactly towards BRAN, the town where the world-famous Vlad 's the Impaler  home  lies, we were incredibly excited. In addition, it was the 31^st of October, Haloween  Day – we coudn't imagine  a better moment. Teachers and  students from different countries, as well as the organizers on the bus already felt the spirit of the castle's legend, occasionally dropping a word here and there “Will we be able to see the Vampires?” Obviously that was not the reality – but the beauty of the landscape, the incredible scenery from the terrace on top of the castle and the amazing sunny day that welcomed us gave us much more than we expected. The lunch at Vila BRAN, a very special holiday resort in the nearby, ready for the night's event, was a wonderful experience too – we ate  among skeletons, pumpkins, witch bonfires and an oncoming perfect full moon. Could we wish anything else? The  second trip took us to the heart of Buzau County, with its large river and dam,  sorrounded by hills covered with astonishing autumnal colours. wWe were very lucky with the weather –a  sunny day again, and the blue sky was the best frame for the views we enjoyed. Here a new surprise was waiting for us. In the morning our Romanian hosts brought us to the strangest volcanoes we have ever seen: the Muddy Volcanoes. The locals call them 'the gates of hell' and  really they are not the volcanoes you would expect – no fire, no ashes,  just liquid mud pushed to the surface by a cold gas coming from 30,000 meters undergroud. The cones, and grey colour of the clay transform the area into a strange moon-like landscape. It was a great  fun for everybody, trying to stand and walk properly on that land! And how difficult it was to get rid of the mud! In the afternoon, after a rich lunch with traditional food – strong alcoholic Palinka, tasty pretzels, ciorba soup and enourmous desserts, - we visited the fashinating Ciolanu Monastery , a silent, relaxing stop along our way. The finely carved wooden doors, the orthodox churches inside the yard, with their colourful iconostasis and quiet atmosphere make it a special place. Around the monastery, there is an exceptional outdoor museum, where famous artists from the country built hundreds  of sculptures made from Magura stone from the Buzau County. There is no chance here to mention other places we visited. Comments are more than positive, and we all agreed that  the land,  the people, the food, the fellow students , the teachers, the atmosphere we shared in Romania   made it an incredibly amazing experience  that far exceeded all our expectations .

Che bella la Romania!

 Lo si sentiva nell'aria. Fin dal momento in cui abbiamo cominciato a dire in giro che saremmo andati in Romania con il progetto Comenius Water, tutti a dire . “la Romania? ah, ma c'è la Transilvania! Allora andrete a vedere il castello di Dracula!” Così, quando abbiamo capito che la prima gita organizzata durante il Meeting a Buzau sarebbe stata proprio a BRAN, la città del famoso Vlad l'Impalatore, non stavamo nella pelle. Tra l'altro la data era fatidica: 31 ottobre, Halloween! Non potevamo immaginare giorno più adatto. Sull'autobus verso Bran, docenti, studenti e organizzatori, influenzati dalla leggenda, lasciavano cadere una frase qui e là, per vedere l'effetto:” ma li vedremo i vampiri?” Certo che non era vero, ma quello che abbiamo trovato all'arrivo era più di quanto ci aspettassimo: un magnifico paesaggio, una vista stupenda dal terrazzo del castello, e una giornata di sole senza pari! Anche il pranzo a VILA BRAN, una località turistica  nelle vicinanze, dove tutto era pronto per la cena evento della sera, è stata un'occasione singolare. Abbiamo mangiato tra scheletri, zucche, falò per le streghe.. e stava per arrivare anche la notte di luna piena .Potevamo chiedere di piu? La seconda gita ci ha portato dritto nel cuore della provincia di Buzau, lungo il grande fiume e la diga, tra colline dipinte da bellissimi colori autunnali. Ancora una volta, siamo stati fortunati col tempo – sole e un bel cielo blu a contornare degnamente i bei panorami. Ci attendeva una nuova sorpresa. Alla mattina, i nostri ospiti Rumeni ci hanno portato a vedere i vulcani più strani mai visti: i Vulcani Fangosi! Gli abitanti del luogo li chiamano “le porte dell'inferno” . Non hanno niente a che vedere con i normali vulcani che tutti conoscono; niente fuoco, niente ceneri... solo rivoli di fango spinti in superficie da gas freddi provenienti da 30.000 metri sottoterra! Si formano coni di fango grigiastro che trasformano la zona in un vero paesaggio lunare. Ci siamo divertiti molto a cercare di mantenere l'equilibrio mentre si camminava lì sopra! E che fatica togliere quel fango! Nel pomeriggio, dopo un ricco pranzo tradizionale a base di Palinka -un liquore  ad alta gradazione alcoolica – di ciambelle salate (pretzel) e zuppa locale (ciorba) oltre a enormi dessert , abbiamo visitao il Monastero di Ciolanu, una pausa silenziosa e rilassante lungo il nostro itinerario. Si respira una atmosfera speciale piena di quiete , tra  belle porte di legno finemente intarsiate, cortili e chiese ortodosse adorne di coloratissime iconostasi. Tutto attorno al monastero giace un eccezionale museo a cielo aperto, poichè artisti famosi hanno creato là centinaia di sculture, con la locale pietra di Magura. Non bastano queste righe per ricordare anche altri luoghi di visita, ma questo si può dire: a tutti è piaciuta questa terra, la sua gente, e poi il cibo, e i compagni e i docenti, e l' atmosfera che abbiamo condiviso. La Romania è stata l'occasione di una esperienza sorprendente, che ha superato di gran lunga tutte le nostre aspettative.
